Virginia Plunkett Johnson

Savannah, Georgia – Virginia Ginny Plunkett Johnson, 84, died January 31, 2009, in her home. Along with her husband, Henry Bradley Johnson, Jr., she operated Empire Insurance Agency for many years. She was a member of Saint Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church and was a docent at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Granddaughters UDC, Bonaventure Daughters of the American Revolution, AMBUCS, the Optimist Club, and the American Business Women's Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Johnson; by her mother-in-law, Mary Bond Johnson; by her parents, Mary Todd Plunkett and Ernest Plunkett; by her brother, William O. Plunkett; by her sister-in-law, Roberta Finn Plunkett; and by a grandnephew, Kevin Plunkett.
She is survived by her niece, Robin Plunkett Thomson and her husband Ric Thomson; her nephew, Bill Plunkett, his wife, Donna Nettles Plunkett, and their children, Erin and Sean; and grandnieces, Carrie Griffin Burkhart and her husband Brian Burkhart and their daughter, Reannon, all of Savannah, and Becky Thomson Simmons, her husband Danny Simmons, and their daughter, Jillian, of Palm Coast, Florida. Also surviving are cousins Dot Plunkett Bragg and her husband Emmett of Gray, Georgia; Adelee Plunkett Trout of Savannah; Allan Bond White of Dillard, Georgia; Camilla Bond Fields of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Sally Bond Tonsmeire and her husband Louis of Cartersville, Georgia; and James Jimmy Bond of Savannah.
Special notes of appreciation go to her caregivers, Dr. George O. Negrea and his staff, Dr. Wayne Hodges and his staff, Home Instead and its staff, and Hospice of Savannah and its staff.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, in Laurel Grove Cemetery, with Reverend Jim Shumard officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Remembrances may be sent to Hospice of Savannah or Saint Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church.
